Curiosità: Based on some incorrect interpretations, scholars assumed that there must have been a coping around the large panel, created by Luca Signorelli. However, this part of the painting, theoretically a Pietà, is not documented. It was commissioned by the Confraternity of Santa Croce di Fratta, today’s Umbertide.
